Architecture
Bonnici builds from Malta outward. For him the construction site is an active laboratory, where ideas are tested and risks are taken. He places his work in a continuum that runs from the island’s prehistoric temples to the present and beyond.
Born in Malta in 1990, he studied architecture at Kingston University, UK (2008 to 2011), where he was nominated for the RIBA Bronze Medal, and at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, Switzerland (2013 to 2015).
From 2015 to 2021 he worked in the office of Valerio Olgiati.
In 2022 he co-founded EBEJER BONNICI with Karl Ebejer, and with the office received the Premju Galizia Award for Emerging Practice in 2025, conferred by the Kamra tal-Periti. In the same year he was awarded the London Design Biennale Medal for URNA, Malta’s national pavilion. He has designed three opera sets with Festivals Malta. Since 2026 he works independently under his own name.
Since 2021 he has led the third year architecture studio at the University of Malta. He is currently working on projects in Malta, Italy and the United Kingdom.
